Just like what Wheelerguy said, today is June 12 (GMT +8). Us Filipinos are celebrating our freedom against the Spaniards...only to be later ruled by you Americans!
I might do a piece tomorrow on my country’s motoring achievements in the past few years, but for now, here’s !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! with pretty much the same theme.

ouch...
The U.S. did free the Philippines from the Japanese, but also Americans did a lot of pretty awful things themselves especially right after taking possession of the Philippines from the Spanish. Of course that’s comparing totally different eras - but you know. Harsh comment if you know a little history.

I was doing some research today on the Battle of the Philippine Sea (it will appear in a future aviation history post), and when I saw your post, I wondered if there are any observances in the Philippines for the defeat of the Japanese in WWII. Or did Filipinos just see it as swapping one colonial power for another?
